Anonymous: hii! i also was going to apply to intern @ riot and i was wondering what you sent them? like a portfolio? with what kind of art? thanks!

I went to their hiring page and looked over the internship page first! It basically says to send them a “note” with what you want to get out of an internship at Riot Games and what sort of skill set you have.

I wrote them a very personal, letter of intent that was about three paragraphs long. I tried to explain myself and my artistic career up until now and where I want to be heading. I also sent my portfolio

Ultimately my suggestion is to try and speak about your strengths and what you want to do at Riot Games. They said that internships are pretty much made up if your skillset is desired. I was really apprehensive about sending my application in but a lot of Rioters gave me a lot of supportive words and wished me luck. The best advice was that you can’t achieve anything if you don’t try, so best of luck to you if you do send in an application!!

I took a few courses on hyperventilating and sent in a letter of intent for internships at Riot Games today. Wish me luck! I did this to avoid doing other work, so now I’m a bit behind for AUSA but no regrets right now…

By the way I’ll be headed off for D.C. for Anime USA this weekend (tomorrow the journey begins) so please stop by and say hello! I did the badge artwork for the convention like previous years, so I’ll be on the guest area—not sure where that is. But I hope to see you there!!

(entrance picture isn’t mine, I was actually too excited to take pictures…)

Just got back from touring Riot Games HQ with Ryan “Morello” Scott! I can’t say much since I signed an NDA but let me tell you, it was everything I expected and more. We got to see the main floors and I saw the rooms for Community, Art, Development, Management and IT. There was literally splash art plastered EVERYWHERE which was amazing and made the whole building beautiful.

I got to see the splash art for Jayce (looks fantastic, by the way) and meet the artist who worked on it. Had the pleasure of meeting Katie De Sousa who was soooo sweet. Saw the line up for the champs being released all the way to November and the concept art board where champ ideas are pitched! Can’t wait for some of those new champs oh god. <3 Also saw a lot of the reworks of splash art and old models. Riot has been keeping busy and definitely won’t disappoint.

Ryan encouraged me to show off my buttons and everyone was very receptive of them! I wish I had more to give but I gave the Rioters three full sets and told them if they wanted any more to just let me know. :) I got to see some familiar faces and even had people be like “OH YOU’RE THE ONE WITH THE BUTTONS!!!” which was absolutely crazy being acknowledged like that. I also ran into someone who was wearing my Woot t-shirt haha!!!

I really couldn’t have asked for more, it was a wonderful experience seeing the HQ and meeting everyone. I think I might be going back later tonight to check in on some more people since we went during lunch hour and mostly everyone was out eating.

PAX East is almost upon us! Join us for a night of partying at the Boston Tee Party at 8pm, Saturday, April 7th at Vintage Lounge.
This is a 21+ event, but if you wear your Sanshee merch you will be eligible to win free swag. That’s right, swag.

And we may be having some guest appearances from Riot Games so be sure to get your League on!
We will also be selling our official League of Legends Teemo and Twisted Fate shirts at PAX. Know that we also have some future, great League of Legends designs in the works and hope that we’ll be able to release those sooner than later!

All of that being said, I will be selling at Anime Boston (artist alley) as well as attending/working the Sanshee booth at PAX East. I’d love to meet up with anyone who’s going to either event but understand that I will most likely be at PAX and/or tied to a booth.

I realized I never posted this, because Riot was having issues with paying me…but this was the result of my paid art test. Unfortunately, due to some strange circumstances revolving around the contact I had for this art test there were more than a few bumps along the road.

It’s a Journal of Justice illustration, drawn from a written prompt. Not sure if I can even post it, so I won’t. In order of appearance: initial draft, revised sketch, final draft.

I couldn’t release these prior to PAX and I wanted to show them off during but I was too exhausted after each day to make a post. Anyways these were the Sanshee surprise for Riot. We made about 300 of each rune pin. I was hoping we would be able to get the Quints done as well, but they didn’t make the cut!

Riot seemed very impressed with them, however, so hopefully you will be seeing them as a purchasable item in the Riot storefront in the future. : ) I snagged my own set before they were given away haha.

SO BIG NEWS. I work as an artist for a company that designs t-shirts for video games and nerd culture called Sanshee. We’re all big fans of League of Legends, and we were granted an opportunity to work with Riot Games for a possible shot at merchandising with them! This is one of two shirt designs that we will be displaying and selling at PAX Prime this weekend! I drew the Twisted Fate shirt and another talented artist took care of an adorable Teemo shirt.
So if you’re going to PAX be sure to stop by the booth and buy a shirt! I’m hoping we do well enough to impress Riot Games and we can do a lot more with them in the future! : )

Working with Riot

I finally got the prompt for my art test with Riot!! I wish I could post the preliminary sketch and the prompt but I most likely won’t be able to release anything until it’s accepted and or published in the Journal of Justice but I’m so incredibly excited and nervous.

Hopefully what I sent will be critiqued and accepted so I can move on to the painting process and finer detailing. Regardless it’s an incredible feeling to know that I’m working with a real company in the gaming industry and all this experience will be something I can use in my future career hunting.

Now if only I could tame the butterflies in my stomach————-!!!
